Dave Lewis interviews with Vancouver

Dave Lewis, former Wings assistant coach, then head coach and now scout, interviewed with the Vancouver Canucks last week regarding the head coaching spot. The interview was done while Lewis was in town for the Draft Combine. Vancouver will get back to him at the latest on June 24, the day of the 2006 NHL Draft.

“It’s nothing more than conversation right now,” Lewis said Wednesday. “It’s a process. It’s for the organization to interview you, find out who you are, what your philosophy is, to find out if you are what they’re looking for.”

Asked Wednesday what he’d learned over those two years, Lewis said, “I enjoyed the first time around. I’m a better coach today than when I first started, I’ll put it that way.”

Personally, I like Dave Lewis. He wasn’t a good fit for the Wings at the head coach position, but that’s because he had been the assistant coach to most of the same players for so long that it was hard for everyone to adjust to the different role. In another team and with the right support in assistant coaches, I think he could do very well. But that’s just me talking, I don’t know what other Wings fans or bloggers would tell you…
