5 weird things about me
I’ve been tagged by Paul at Kukla’s Korner to list five weird things about me…
1) I’m very unlucky when it comes to health issues - I’ve had shingles twice, 7 knee surgeries, and getting my wisdom teeth removed resulted in a 2nd surgery and 5 rounds of antibiotics before the infection went away! Plus, I had to go to two of my three homecoming dances on crutches and with an immobilizer.
2) Spiders terrify me like no other. Even the tiniest of spiders freaks me out. Snakes don’t bother me at all. Rodents, not a problem. But spiders are a totally different matter.
3) On my mom’s side of the family, I have 10 boy cousins. No girl cousins. And all of my cousins’ kids (5 in total) are boys. I have two brothers. Let’s just say it was pretty easy to be a tomboy growing up.
4) As an assistant editor-in-chief of my high school’s award winning paper, I had the wonderful opportunity to be a TV reporter for the southeastern Michigan TV show, “State Champs,” one Saturday in 2004. Let’s just say that TV broadcasting is a lot harder than it seems!
5) I love to watch Health channels because the sight of surgery gives me an adrenaline rush. Blood. Sawing. Burning. I love it all. Plus, I shadowed an orthopedic surgeon for a month last year and saw so many great surgeries. I even got to inject a guy with local anesthetic on my last day!
And as sad as it is, I enjoy reading injury reports for various sports teams and then looking up whatever problem they have.
And who shall I tag? Matt @ On the Wings, Tapeleg @ Jerseys and Hockey Love, and Drew @ End of the Bench!
Random fact that I’m proud of…
My high school, Detroit Country Day, won 10 state championship titles in the fours years I was there. I saw 8 of the championship games. I’m not going to even count the number of district, regional, and runner-up titles. Since I couldn’t play, I was the school superfan. Our victories included:
- Back to Back to Back Women’s Basketball titles (Class B)
- Back to Back Women’s Tennis titles (D-3)
- Men’s Soccer title (D-3)
- 2 Men’s Lacrosse titles (D-3)
- Women’s Soccer title (D-3)
- Men’s Track title (D-3)
Last year was my first year away from DCDS and they won an impressive three state titles (Women’s Tennis, Men’s Soccer, and Men’s Tennis). Go YellowJackets!
And to celebrate….
Yesterday was my 12 week aniversary of my ACL allograft revision operation (tissue transplant). If my body was going to reject the tissue, it would’ve done so by yesterday so I’m very excited. Plus, I’ve been able to do squats and lunges with minor pain for the first time in 3 years!
