Legace signs with St. Louis

Former Wings goaltender Manny Legace has signed a one year contract with the St. Louis Blues

Legace is also excited about the prospect of facing the division rival Red Wings eight times during the regular season.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t, but it’s not like I’m holding any grudges or anything,” Legace said. “The Wings have been so good to me, it’s a first-class organization. They said they would be making a move (in net), and they did.”

Legace said the Wings found a good replacement for himself in Dominik Hasek.

“When he’s playing, he’s healthy, Dom is the best goaltender in the world,” Legace said. “He’s unbelievable.”

Thanks to Paul at Kukla’s Korner for the link.

Update: Apparently, Chris Osgood helped convince Legace that St. Louis is a great sports place. I don’t think Legace needed convincing since he didn’t have a single job offer until the Blues came around…

Before coming to St. Louis, Legace had a chat with Osgood. Osgood played with the Blues from 2003-04 before returning to Detroit.

“He just loved the city, said they love their hockey and their huge sports fans in every area,” said Legace, who also befriended Davidson during his broadcasting days. “It was a factor, there’s no question.”
