Zetterberg injures wrist
Wings star forward Henrik Zetterberg is leaving Sweden to see a doctor in Detroit about a wrist injury that may cause Hank to miss the first part of the season according to the Detroit Free Press.
The Swedish paper Expressen reported Thursday that Zetterberg, 25, had a serious wrist injury and may miss the start of the NHL season. The paper quoted Zetterberg’s agent, Gunnar Svensson, as saying the wrist had been a problem for a year and a half, and that it flared up earlier this week when Zetterberg was skating with his old Swedish club, Timra.
The problem has flared up only to go away again on and off for 18 months, but this latest incident convinced the Wings to take another look at Zetterberg.
Zetterberg was supposed to be a guest coach at a kid’s camp in England later this month. He may need an operation to solve this wrist pain. Hopefully if he needs it, Hank can start recovering ASAP so he doesn’t miss the second half of the season.
RyanBarnes! at the Lets Go Wings forums translated the Swedish article for us:
The article says Zetterberg has been forced to tape his wrists in order to be able to play from time to time, but other times he’s felt fine. The pain re-occurred when Zetterberg started to practice on ice earlier this week with his former team Timra. The doctors in Detroit want to examine him and find out what’s wrong once and for all, so he’s been put on a plane to Detroit. He may need an operation in order to get rid of this injury. Agent Gunnar Svensson doesn’t know if this threatens Zetterberg’s season premiere: “Nobody has that answer right now”.
There is some speculation that it could be bone chips, but we really have no idea at this point. But if the wrist has been bothering him off and on, I’d rather have him miss the first part of the season and get better than have it get injured right before the playoffs and we’d certainly be screwed. Can you imagine the playoffs without Hank? Yikes.

[…] Henrik Zetterberg Earlier this summer, Hank left his summer home in Sweden to check up with the Detroit doctors regarding his sore wrist. He was given a cortisone injection and after a little bit of rest, Hank is feeling better than he has in three years. I’m sure that all the Wings fans will agree with me that this is excellent news, maybe we’ll get even more offense out of him. “The wrist hasn’t felt this good in a long time,” said Zetterberg after an informal workout Wednesday with some Wings. “It feels even better than it did before.” […]
