Wings’ upcoming charity events

There are two upcoming charity events that the Detroit Red Wings will be participating in…

1) The Wings annual charity golf event will be held at TPC in Dearborn, Michigan on October 2nd.

The cost for a foursome begins at $3,950. The event features a post-round banquet, and live and silent auctions. Proceeds from the event will benefit the families of Vladimir Konstantinov and Sergei Mnatsakanov. For more information, call 313-396-7576 or 313-396-7999.

2) The Wings will take on Tigers alum on September 9th in the Champions’ Challenge at Comerica Park. Cost is $10.

Ilitch Charities for Children, along with title sponsor Little Caesars, presents “Champions’ Challenge” celebrity softball game at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at Comerica Park. Members of the current Red Wings team will take on Detroit Tigers Alumni, local media and other local celebrities; and an exciting fireworks show will follow the game.

Players currently scheduled to appear include Red Wings fan favorites Chris Chelios, Kris Draper, and Kirk Maltby. Tiger greats slated to participate include Gates Brown, Willie Horton, Mickey Lolich, Bill Freehan, Frank Tanana and Dan Petry.* The first half of the evening double-header will feature Detroit area media personalities in a 5:45 p.m. contest. Gates open at 5:00 p.m.

Proceeds will go to Think Detroit PAL, Detroit Red Wings Foundation, Detroit Tigers Foundation and Ilitch Charities for Children. You will be able to watch this game on FSD on tape delay. You can buy tickets at TicketMaster.
