Zetterberg’s wrist won’t need surgery
The Wings received good news today when Dr. Richard Singer at DMC (Detroit Medical Center) examined Henrik Zetterberg’s wrist and determined there was no “structural damage to the wrist.” He will be given a cortisone shot on Monday and then apparently will be heading back to Sweden. I just don’t understand why the hand specialist didn’t just give him the cortisone injection today. I mean the injection takes not even a minute and the doctor should’ve had the proper supplies when he examined Hank, but maybe that’s just knee surgeons that I’ve dealt with…
“The [arthrogram] test showed nothing major, just some inflammation,” Holland said.
“At this stage, surgery isn’t planned and it’s not necessary,” Holland said. “The report I’ve got is that it’s just some inflammation and the prognosis is good. We’re optimistic he’ll be fine and can resume his normal training soon.”
Update: Ansar Khan at MLive.com is reporting that Zetterberg has tendonitis in the wrist, which will not require surgery. He should be able to return to normal activity within seven to 10 days. Holland also helped explain what an arthrogram is: “Dye was injected into the ligament,” Holland said. “If there’s a tear, blue dye will leak out. There was no leakage.”
Today’s Detroit Free Press had an additional quote from GM Holland about Zetterberg’s wrist.
“It’s huge, because if there had been ligament damage, we would have been talking about extended time out,” general manager Ken Holland said. “Basically he has an inflammation, so that’s very, very positive news. It’s something that can be treated with rest and an anti-inflammatory. By late August, we expect that he is 100%.”

[…] Henrik Zetterberg Earlier this summer, Hank left his summer home in Sweden to check up with the Detroit doctors regarding his sore wrist. He was given a cortisone injection and after a little bit of rest, Hank is feeling better than he has in three years. I’m sure that all the Wings fans will agree with me that this is excellent news, maybe we’ll get even more offense out of him. “The wrist hasn’t felt this good in a long time,” said Zetterberg after an informal workout Wednesday with some Wings. “It feels even better than it did before.” […]
