Devils’ Wiemer has knee surgery

The New Jersey Devils veteran left wing Jason Wiemer had reconstructive knee surgery last week and will not be in the lineup during the next six months. His $950,000 salary will not count against the cap making it a little easier for the Devils.

“He had an injury during the playoffs and also had previous knee trouble,” Lamoriello said of Wiemer. “The evaluation was to have the knee reconstructed.”

You would think that if the knee had been bothering him, they’d have the surgery done a lot earlier in the offseason.

I’m still trying to determine what he actually had done to his knee because a major reconstructive surgery could be repairing any ligament (ACL, PCL, LCL, or MCL) or it could be additional cartilage or bone damage so we’ll have to wait and see I guess. If anyone knows what knee injury he suffered, please let me know via email or comment!
