Wings sign Johnson…again
Center Greg Johnson is back with the Wings for his second stint (he was traded in 96-97). Financial terms have not yet been released, but the Detroit News says it will be a one year contract worth slightly above the league minimum. I just don’t understand why we would sign Johnson when we have so many centers as it is, but maybe GM Ken Holland believes that Johan Frazen will be heading to Sweden next summer so who knows.
TSN:
Johnson, who was an unrestricted free agent, scored 11 goals and 19 points in 68 games with the Nashville Predators last season and is expected to fill a role as Detroit’s fourth line centre.
A2Y:
35 years old, a history of concussions, soft around the net, a center on a team filled with them…yep, right up Kenny Holland’s alley.
According to the Free Press article (via the Nashville Predators media guide), Johnson lives in Detroit during the offseason so I bet this signing works out nicely for him.
