Oilers become Griffins new co-affiliate
The Grand Rapids Griffins have added the Edmonton Oilers as an additional NHL affiliate. The Griffins up to 4 more players or so and they needed to look to the Oilers to fill that roster. However, this will have absolutely no impact on the Wings affiliation with the Griffins.
The one-year agreement won’t affect the Griffins’ primary affiliation with the Detroit Red Wings, general manager Bob McNamara said. That agreement is entering its fifth season and talks are continuing to extend the relationship.
“We had (forward) Nate DiCasmirro last season from Edmonton and it was a good situation for both us and the Oilers,” McNamara said. “They contacted us about sending up to four players this year. We talked it over with the Red Wings and they were fine.”
“Our relationship with the Red Wings is as strong as ever,” McNamara said. “We wouldn’t have entered an agreement with Edmonton without talking to them.”
