Favor to Ask
I will be writing a paper for my argumentative writing class and the outline is due this Thursday. I just changed my topic to visors in the NHL. My claim is that the NHL should make it mandatory for its players to wear visors.
I was hoping that if any of you knew of a good article that either supported or argued against my claim that you could please email me the link or leave a comment. Additionally, if you just have an opinion that supports or refutes my claim let me know! I need to make my paper as well rounded as possible and writing for any potential rebuttals is going to be pretty important when my professor grades my paper.

Back in the mid- to late-90’s while at Michigan I had the opportunity to interview then-Hobey Baker candidate Brendan Morrison, who at the time was polishing up a successful collegiate hockey career, and was headed to the New Jersey Devils the next season. In particular I asked him about the change from college hockey (wear visors/cages are mandatory) to the pros, and whether he would wear face protection. He said no, players have a lot more respect for each other up there, blah blah blah (the standard cliches), and that he’d go without.
It only took a season or so in the NHL (and a stick to the face, I believe) before he did indeed put the visor on, and he’s worn it ever since.
Basically, the machismo attitude towards not wearing a visor (and then switching once an injury has occured, like Steve Yzerman or Kirk Maltby) is basically like saying I won’t bother wearing a seat belt until I actually get in a car accident. It’s time for them to be made mandatory.
