Lidstrom named captain

In the brief ceremony before the Wings-Canucks season opener, defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom was named captain of the Detroit Red Wings. Henrik Zetterberg and Kris Draper will both be wearing the “A” on their jersey. Congratulations to Lidstrom and thanks to all the fans who gave him a warm standing ovation at Joe Louis Arena.

We even got to see Steve Yzerman come out and drop the ceremonial face-off between the teams’ two captains. He looked very sharp in the suit I must add. I can’t believe that the Yzerman era has officially ended. I didn’t want to believe it, but it’s a tad hard when the “C” is now on a different player.

I will not be liveblogging during the game, but I’ll try to get a brief game recap up after the game (ie. 11:30pm since I have a meeting at 9:15ish). Go Wings!

Don’t hop off the bandwagon that fast. I admit they did not look that good however Vancouver was hungry. Wings definitely need to play rougher and we need a trade for another goalie to keep Hasek fresh (not Osbad). Congrats to Lidstrom. Tigers did us proud today. It was a nice touch seeing Babcock wear the Tiger logo on his lapel. Let’s hope and pray for two Illitch champions. I will be at the Stars vs. Wings game in late October. Hillbilly Hockey. Go Wings, Go Tigers!

Haha! I hate Detroit! I was being sarcastic to heckle Christy. I’m actually a Leafs and Nucks fan….

[…] Without Steve Yzerman, somebody else had to be the captain for the Red Wings for the first time in nearly 20 years. That person is defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom, who has some huge skates to fill. The assistant captains are Kris Draper and Henrik Zetterberg. While I completely think Lidstrom is the man for the job, it just isn’t right for someone other than Stevie Y to be “The Captain.” There will never be another like him. [BtJ] […]
