Wings cheer on Detroit Tigers

In honor of tonight’s Tigers game vs. the Oakland Athletics (Tigers are up 5-0 at the top of the fourth), I decided to talk about the Wings support of the Detroit Tigers.

The Detroit News had an article in today’s paper saying that new captain Nicklas Lidstrom actually postponed the team’s flight to LA until Sunday morning so the team could go watch Saturday’s game.

“It was Nick’s first big responsibility, to back the plane up,” Kris Draper said. “He had 22 guys behind him sneaking around the seats.”

Babcock, an avid baseball fan, was happy to oblige with the travel change. “These guys are excited, and you can’t blame them,” Babcock said. “It’s a phenomenal thing.”

“I don’t think they’ve had a winning record since I’ve been here,” Lidstrom said. “This is great for the city, for their team. You can just see how excited everyone is in here. We’re all happy for them and supporting them.”

Schneider, who grew up a Yankees fan while living in New York, said the Tigers have filled an important role for Metro Detroit.

“It’s nice to see the buzz, frankly,” Schneider said. “It exciting for all of us in here, especially since Mr. Ilitch owns both teams, you feel part of the same family, which makes it extra special.”

Cheli’s Bar is doing really well with the Tigers’ playoff success. They now have a heated outdoor tent for those fans that want to be even closer to the game.

“We’ve been crazy, crazy and we’re working a lot of hours, but it’s definitely been worth it. The Tigers have worked hard all year for this,” said Megan Sorok, manager at Cheli’s.

Oh if you are going to the Red Wings game Friday night, try to get there early and carpool as the Tigers also have a game that day so parking will be tighter than normal.

This isn’t really related to anything, but Bucci takes a jab at Datsyuk this week…
“I’m trying to capitalize on creative jolts by immediately writing them down so they don’t disappear like Pavel Datsyuk in the playoffs.”

    Ouch
