Doom and gloom

The always entertaining Doomsberry has sent me a message of doom and gloom regarding the Wings west coast road trip. Here you go…

As the Wings embark on a 5 game West Coast trip things could not be worse. I fear there will be many bleary eyed, disappointed Wing fans over the next week or so. Optimists will quickly point out that the Wings are currently tied for first in the Central Division. This fact only clouds rational thinking and causes hopes to rise among fans, hopes most certain to be dashed later in bitter despair. No, the time is now to prepare to be bitten by San Jose, suffer a royal pain against L.A., duck out of Anaheim with another loss, get buried in an Avalanche of pucks in Colorado, and finish off the road trip as prey to a pack of Coyotes.

Take heed of those storm clouds on the horizon. Doom is lurking and I fear the Wings will return home after this trip with no more than 65 points for the season. Meanwhile, the storied franchise in Nashville will continue to dominate. It is tough to compete with the Preds, a team that has you half beaten when they come out on the ice with their legendary logo, striking fear into the hearts of opponents by their presence alone.

It would be best to lower your expectations now rather than have your hopes crushed later. Let pessimism be your guide, and hunker down for what promises to be a very long second half of the season.
