Wings almost had Nolan

Yep, the Detroit Red Wings almost traded for Kyle Calder, Todd Bertuzzi, AND Owen Nolan. That would’ve been crazy! The Phoenix Coyotes GM asked Nolan if he would be okay with being traded to Detroit, even though he does not have a no trade clause. Unfortunately for the Wings, Nolan said no because his wife is pregnant and due in April.

“That was around 10 o’clock Tuesday morning. He was one of the options we were exploring. At that time we really knew we had Todd Bertuzzi. … Obviously, (we) knew we had Calder. We tried to add one more player. Nolan was one of the guys we explored.”

Holland said he understood Nolan’s decision.

“He didn’t really want to go anywhere,” Holland said. “It’s not like he didn’t want to come to us. He didn’t want to go anywhere.”
