Wings’ injury updates
Due to Kronwall and Lidstrom’s injuries, Kyle Quincey was called up from the Grand Rapids Griffins to play in today’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Quincey has played three NHL games in his career. In addition, Brett Lebda will return after missing three games due to a concussion.
Quincey, 21, goes from a team battling for one of the final playoff spots in the American Hockey League to a team battling for the top seed in the NHL’s Western Conference.
“We struggled early in the year and put a great two months together,” Quincey said of the Grand Rapids Griffins. “That’s the only reason we’re in this position. Early in the year, we thought we were doomed. Pretty confident if we get in the playoffs, we can do some damage.”
In the meantime, he’ll try to make an impression with the Wings. “Tomorrow, keep it simple and it should be my best game yet, hopefully,” he said.
Tomas Kopecky will not be returning to the lineup this season as his broken collarbone still has not completely healed. If he injures it again, it could be the end to his career so they aren’t going to rush him back.
Interestingly enough, it was until 1am on Saturday that MRI results confirmed Holland’s worries that Kronwall had suffered a serious injury.
GM Ken Holland is happy with how Todd Bertuzzi is progressing with the Red Wings.
“We’re happy with how he’s coming along,” Holland said. “He’s physically imposing. He gives us a dimension, another big man, and he’s got great hands for a big man. He’s had a number of scoring chances, and it’s a matter of him each and every day getting a little better timing.”
