Whalers 6, Rangers 5 (OT)

Tonight was the Plymouth Whalers’ (OHL) first game in the second round of the playoffs against the Kitchener Rangers. They won 6-5 in overtime.

This game is exactly why I love junior hockey:

- OT during the playoffs.
- 11 goals scored.
- 52 PIM including 10 for fighting.
- Great prospects.

Speaking of which, Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock and GM Ken Holland were at the game watching Wings’ prospect Jakub Kindl (who plays for the Rangers) and possibly other players on either team who are eligible for the draft this year. Plus, there were a bunch of scouts at the game. Kindl, a defenseman, played quite well and got plenty of ice time where he notched three assists, two of which came on the power play.

The Whalers go to Kitchener for a game on Sunday and then return home for their third game of the series this Tuesday at 7:05pm.
