Wings’ playoff schedule

The NHL announced all of the playoff round schedules and here is Detroit-Calgary’s:

Series E - #1 Detroit vs. #8 Calgary
Date Time (ET) Location Network
Thu., April 12 7:00 p.m. at Detroit VERSUS, CBC
Sun., April 15 1:00 p.m. at Detroit NBC, CBC
Tue., April 17 10:00 p.m. at Calgary CBC, VERSUS
Thu., April 19 TBD at Calgary CBC, VERSUS
*Sat., April 21 3:00 p.m. at Detroit NBC, CBC
*Sun., April 22 TBD at Calgary CBC, VERSUS
*Tue., April 24 TBD at Detroit CBC, VERSUS

What do I like? Tuesday, April 17th, I have an econ exam at 8pm. I’m going to finish my hardest final exam and come back to my dorm room and be able to watch the entire hockey game. Plus, Game #5 (which I’m going to) is the day after my last final exam is over.

What don’t I like? The Wings are playing in two afternoon games. The one at 1pm worries me especially. I know both are so NBC can show the games, but our team sucks in the afternoon.

[Update: I didn’t even notice it until Scott brought it up in the comments, but the Wings play the Flames in two consecutive days (games #5 and #6). Why in the world would they schedule that when Calgary and Detroit are so far apart geographically speaking? That’s brutal, especially when Game #6 could very well be the deciding game of the series.]

All I have to say is thank goodness CBC is showing every game, I don’t get Versus in my dorm, but I do get CBC so I don’t have to go anywhere special to be able to watch the game. Go Wings!

I don’t know how the NHL schedulers don’t know what time will be the game 4, if the game 5 already have all of it. Strange.
And yeah… the Wings Suck afterlunch.
Nway… my guess is Wings in 7, with 4 wins at the Joe.

The games will still be on Fox Sports Detroit, though, right? I think that schedule hasn’t been announced yet, but probably outside of the NBC weekend games, we’ll get to hear Ken and Mickey on local television. I hope so anyway, it won’t be the same watching the games without those guys calling the action.

The other thing which makes no sense is the back-to-back games in Detroit and Calgary for games 5 and 6. I understand having games 1 and 2 back-to-back wouldn’t be good, but forcing the teams to travel that long of a distance and play on back-to-back nights seems a bit tough. Hopefully the Wings will wrap it up early and we won’t have to worry about it.

Many of my fondest memories from university in Ottawa was watching the Leafs/Sens annual first round playoff battle (alas as a Leaf-hater, the results were never good). I distinctly remember spriting across campus after a night exam to get back to residence in time to watch one game.

As a Flames, I’m looking forward to taking a closer look at the Wings bloggers over the next few weeks. Keep up the good work, eh.
