Can the Wings split at the Tank?
I believe that the Red Wings can get a win in the Shark Tank. It won’t be easy, but it definitely can be done. Plus, it kind of has to happen if the Wings want to stay in this series.
A couple quick comments…
The Wings need to crash the net. Screen Nabokov. Avoiding the outside of the crease decreases our chances of success. Now that Tomas Holmstrom has been cleared to play, we’ll hopefully get back to doing this.
Who should be scratched now that Homer has returned? Well, I’d like to say Lang or even Samuelsson (although he has improved over the past two games). But I have a feeling Jiri Hudler will be the odd man out. He’s the smallest guy on the ice and even though he tries to be physical, it doesn’t have the same effect like Bertuzzi being physical would have. Plus, he fanned on quite a few shots last night when he had great scoring opportunities.
Ansar Khan thinks it’ll be either Hudler or Kyle Calder:
A lot of people would probably like to see Lang scratched Wednesday when Tomas Holmstrom returns to the lineup. It won’t happen. It’ll be Hudler, likely, since on the road the Sharks can exploit that match-up if they’re able to get one of their big, strong forwards on the ice against him. Then again, it might as well be Kyle Calder, who didn’t play in the second half of the third period Monday and logged only 7:22, after playing 7:40 the game before.
Wings’ ratings
While the Wings may not be selling out at the Joe, they beat out three other teams in TV ratings when it came to Detroit sports. On Saturday, the Wings’ playoff game went up against the NFL Draft (which is the biggest event after the Super Bowl), the Detroit Pistons’ playoff game, and a Detroit Tigers’ game.
According to Nielsen Media Research, it was the Red Wings, which drew a 9.1 on Channel 4, followed by the Pistons (7.6 combined) on TNT and Channel 20, the NFL draft (5.4) on ESPN and the Tigers (2.8) on FSN.
One TV ratings point equals 19,380 area households.
…
“One of every four households had their TVs on watching Detroit sports,” Hauser said of Saturday’s sports viewership. “And it was a beautiful day; it wasn’t like it was raining. The ratings say there’s a ton of interest in all of our sports.”
An interesting note: The Detroit Tigers made it to the World Series last season. Their TV ratings have increased by 66% this year according to FSN. Wow!
