Wings 1, Sharks 2
The San Jose Sharks came from behind to win the game, 2-1, as well as take a series lead, 2-1.
Unfortunately, I have to get up early for my first day of spring classes so this will be brief.
The Sharks deserved to win. I hate to say it, but for the last 40 minutes of play, they controlled the puck. They got to the puck first. It was in our end most of the time. Dominik Hasek had a big game and the score could have been much different without him in net.
Once again, Nabokov doesn’t scare me. Yes, he’s a solid goaltender. I didn’t see him give up quite as many rebounds, but I still wasn’t in awe of his saves or anything like that. Hopefully having Tomas Holmstrom back for Game #4 will really help us out on those rebounds.
For the most part, our penalty kill wasn’t too bad. There were a couple penalties that I thought were bad calls (ie. the interference by Robert Lang when a Shark initiated the hit - just let them play hockey!). But no one scored on those penalties and the Sharks controlled much of the game anyways so it didn’t really make much of a difference.
I like Big Bert, but he had two stupid penalties including one with 2:48 remaining in the game. Talk about poor timing.
Do I think the Wings can play better? Of course. But you have to give the Sharks credit on this win, and you have to definitely give it to Joe Thornton who played really well tonight.
I’ll try to post some recaps from around the blogosphere and media when I get back from classes tomorrow evening.

Well, the first one wasn’t even a penalty. How can you have the puck on your stick, the other player gets his feet tangled up trying to get it from you and falls down…and it’s a penalty? That was the worst call I’ve ever seen.

[…] Christy over at Behind the Jersey posted her thoughts on the game in this article. If the Wings can play the way they did during the first half of Game 3 - but for an entire game - they will be in good shape for Game 4. Getting Tomas Holmstrom back will certainly be a big help. Does anybody else think that fatigue set in at about the 15:00 mark of the 2nd period? Sure, give the Sharks some credit for their turnaround in play, but the Wings just fell off a cliff at that point compared to their play in the 1st period. To me, they just looked tired.

Great recap Christy, I agree with everything you wrote. The wings just looked tired by the end of the second period. It was a very entertaining game, despite the result.
RE: Paul — “Well, the first one wasn’t even a penalty.” I disagree Paul. It looked like an obvious “slew foot” to me. Bert was a liability in that game, no doubt.
