Big day in playoff action

Today is a great day for sports in Detroit. The Red Wings play game five of the series against the Sharks this afternoon at 2pm. The Detroit Pistons start off the second round against the Chicago Bulls at 7pm.

Matt Watson at Detroit Bad Boys tells you what to expect in the Pistons-Bulls series and the renewal of a rivalry from the late 1980s and early 1990s (think Bad Boys era with Isaiah Thomas and Bill Laimbeer).

The Wings are tied in the series against San Jose and look to put their home advantage to use. This is now a best of three series with two of the games at the Joe. Hopefully, the arena will be loud even if it isn’t sold out. Special teams will be a big factor this afternoon and hopefully the Wings won’t take many stupid penalties. I think today we’ll see some scoring from Datsyuk and Zetterberg, who seems to always score at home but not so much on the road this postseason. And I’d love to see Big Bert get into the action.

Oh, the Wings-Sharks game starts at 2pm on NBC. They have the Kentucky Derby race scheduled for 5pm. If the game has not concluded by 5pm in Detroit, WDIV (Channel 4) will do a split screen during the race only and then go back to a full screen for the rest of the game. However, it looks like other markets (with the exception of San Jose I’m guessing) will just watch the Derby and will not see the conclusion of the Wings’ game. Hopefully, there won’t be a need for OT and this problem will be avoided but you never know.

Anyways, I’ll post a game recap tonight and hopefully have some comments on the Pistons’ game as well. Go Wings!
