NHL jerseys selling well

Paul @ Kukla’s Korner updated us on sales of NHL merchandise including jerseys. The Buffalo Sabres have dominated this corner of the market with an 895% increase from last April. Wow!

These are the top ten selling jerseys between April 1-30:

1. Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins
2. Ryan Miller, Buffalo Sabres
3. Daniel Briere, Buffalo Sabres
4. Maxim Afinogenov, Buffalo Sabres
5. Chris Drury, Buffalo Sabres
6. Thomas Vanek, Buffalo Sabres
7. Jason Pominville, Buffalo Sabres
8. Sean Avery, New York Rangers
9. Roberto Luongo, Vancouver Canucks
10. Jaromir Jagr, New York Rangers

That’s a whole lot of Sabres.

I’m surprised to see Sean Avery on that list even with his improved play and attitude after being traded from the LA Kings.

I know the Wings don’t have any superstars on their team (Nick Lidstrom rarely gets the attention he deservers), but it still amazes me that not a single Red Wings player has had a top ten selling jersey for the past year (that I know of). And the Wings are a pretty popular team! Detroit fans may also hold off on buying a jersey due to the poor economy in southeastern Michigan so that may be a small factor as well.

It just goes to show how popular the Sabres are right now and it obviously didn’t hurt that the Rangers made it into the second round.
