Wings 3, Ducks 4 (OT)
Ugh. My temporary joy quickly faded. The team I intern for, the Plymouth Whalers, won the OHL Championship tonight in Sudbury in OT. I’m so proud of my team! I will post more about that game tomorrow since I have another hour of German homework before getting some sleep. I learned about this victory during the intermission between the third period and OT. Unfortunately, the Ducks escaped with a victory and split the two games in Detroit. Disappointing.
I felt that the Ducks had a great first period. I thought the Wings played solid in the second and for a lot of the third. OT was pretty mixed with both teams getting solid chances and the Ducks even had a power play after Mikael Samuelsson got a delay of game even though he had time to properly clear the puck.
The Wings’ special teams were pretty solid although two of the Ducks’ goals were not technically PPG, but they happened within a few seconds of the power play ending so they essentially were power play goals. I thought the Ducks’ tying goal was crap as Hasek had made the save and the puck was in his kneepad, but was then pushed further into the net and that’s when the puck crossed the line. But I guess we got some gifts on Friday, and it was Anaheim’s turn. Two of the four Ducks’ goals were reviewed.
Lidstrom and Datsyuk scored two PPG and Kirk Maltby earned a shorthanded goal.
Since the players couldn’t really spend time with their family on Mother’s Day, Kris Draper sent 17 dozen roses to the Wives’ room so each mother received a dozen roses. Aww.
Basically, I felt that the Wings probably should’ve had tonight’s game, but they didn’t. While I felt they played better in some aspects than they had on Friday night, they obviously still have some work to do before Game #3. I just hope that they can split the two games in Anaheim and come back home with the series tied.
Unfortunately, I need to do my German homework and can’t provide further analysis of the game right now. Be sure to check out the official scoresheet for the game details.

[…] Wings: Lose. […]

As I watch the Wings play at home on Versus it strikes me how unenthused the crowd is at the Joe. Not only do I see empty seats, but people contently sitting on their behinds. What’s going on here? It’s the second round of the playoffs! Have Wings fans become spoiled with years of success? Look at how loud & raucous the Sabre fans are this year. The dedicated hundreds that stand in the parking lot screaming & shouting their team on. They positively thirst for the cup! I think Red Wings fans bear some reasponsibility for not doing more to cheer their team on to victory. A two game lead was in our grasp… Argh!

Duponceau & Paul- Thanks for leaving comments.
Sabres’ fans remind me of the Wings’ fans back in 1997. We have been spoiled over the years and while that doesn’t mean we don’t want success and don’t get excited over wins, we don’t show it quite as well as thirsty for the Cup cities like Buffalo.
But it does upset me when I see people just sitting there after a goal. It’s like, get up a cheer people!
