Ducks 3, Senators 2

I watched the entire game while studying for my German exam tomorrow morning (yes I have one pretty much every week) so there won’t be any postgame comments until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest. Just a few quick comments…

First thing I thought of after the Ducks won? The thought of Chris Pronger raising the Stanley Cup over his head makes me want to throw up. What is the verb for vomit in German? I just happened to learn it this week. It’s “sich übergeben.” I knew my German class would come in handy someday.

Was anyone else disappointed with Ottawa’s captain Daniel Alfredsson shooting the puck at Niedermayer at the end of the second? Seemed pretty classless to me.

I guess if Anaheim is going to win the Cup, I hope they can do it at home with their fans. But I’d still prefer the Senators to win for the mere fact that I despise Chris Pronger.

[…] Chris Pronger raising the Cup makes them throw up (Behind the Jersey) As Blues fans, we can’t help but agree. […]

An even better word is “kotzen,” which is more slangy, like “barf.”

I just try very, very hard to forget Pronger is even on the team, and think of how much Teemu Selanne deserves to win. A real class act–doesn’t seem to fit on the team, but what the heck.

Carl- Thanks! We don’t learn a whole lot of slang in my class so any tips are welcome!

Baroque- I would enjoy seeing Selanne and Giguere win the Cup. Can’t say the same about Pronger.

As a native German speaker I like to add: “sich übergeben”, while popular, is not what you are looking for. It’s “sich erbrechen”. The noun describing the substance that you produce is when doing so is “das Erbrochene”. There is whole Wikipedia entry on “Erbrechen”: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erbrechen. I hope this make you feel better.

Jürgen- Thanks for the correction! I didn’t realize so many hockey fans knew German and visit BTJ. Okay, there have been 4 people who have left comments about German, but that’s 4 more then I thought. I’ll have to visit your blog for extra German practice.
