Ducks’ merchandise is selling well

During Game #5 of the Stanley Cup Finals (and series winning game), Anaheim Ducks’ fans bought their team’s merchandise at a record rate by spending an average of $24.70 on souvenirs/merchandise.

That was up 45.3 percent or $9.70 over the previous record of $17 set during Game 5 of the 2002 finals between Detroit and Carolina.

“This is another great example of the strength of our local economy and the impact of winning the Stanley Cup,” said Tim Ryan, Ducks executive vice president and chief operating officer.

A year ago, the Ducks dropped the word “Mighty” from their name and changed their logo and colors. Merchandise sales at the team store inside Honda Center increased 236 percent during this season, the team said.

It seems that a change in logos and thus jerseys can really jumpstart merchandise sales. Just look at the Buffalo Sabres, who were the #1 team in terms of merchandise sales this year, and the Ducks. Admittedly, this formula doesn’t always work, but the Sabres and Ducks certainly used it to their advantage.
