Vote Polanco
Scott at Cutoff Man and Quo Vadimus is trying to get the Detroit Tigers’ second baseman, Placido Polanco, to be the starter in the All-Star game.
Somehow, despite trailing in every conceivable offensive and defensive statistical category, Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees is leading Placido Polanco by some 8,000 votes in the race for starting second baseman on the American League All Star team. In response, I’ve started a “Go to the Polls for Placido!” voting campaign @ my blog and I was hoping that if we were able to spread the word through our various blogs, encouraging people to vote, either on-line or at Comerica Park, we can get Tigers fans behind the campaign.
While you’re there voting, please vote for Magglio Ordonez! He’s my favorite Tiger and he definitely deserves to be a starting outfielder after the amazing season he’s been having!

The MLB official website has commented on the increase in votes for Polanco.
Another cog of the Bombers infield, however, fell out of the lead. Second baseman Robinson Cano held a slim lead of 8,214 votes over Placido Polanco in the first weekly update and now trails the Detroit second sacker by nearly 52,000.
While online voting will continue to bear a heavy influence until the cyber polls close at the end of the day on June 28, the in-stadium booths are gradually being shuttered.
Based on their statistics, ESPN has named Ordonez as the best player in baseball right now. This website describes how they formulated these ratings. Bless You Boys gives his thoughts on the Tigers’ players’ rankings.
Here’s the breakdown of Tigers in the top 100:
#1: Magglio Ordonez
#9: Gary Sheffield
#27: Placido Polanco
#62: Curtis Granderson
#68: Carlos Guillen
#89: Justin VerlanderI’m really glad to see Granderson on the list, as it would seem to confirm my thoughts that he’s one of the best centerfielders in baseball right now. I was kind of keeping that opinion to myself, however, as I thought I might have been biased since I watch more of his games than any other centerfielder. On ESPN.com’s list, only Grady Sizemore, Ichiro Suzuki, Torii Hunter, and Aaron Rowand rank ahead of Granderson. That looks about right to me, especially since I haven’t watched Rowand play this season.
