Bruins fire David Lewis
Former Detroit Red Wings’ assistant and head coach David Lewis has been fired by the Boston Bruins after serving as head coach for only one season. He will apparently still be working for the organization, but in another capacity.
“Since the season has ended I have completed a thorough review of the team and the coaching staff, and I have determined that Dave Lewis and Marc Habscheid are not the proper fit for the Bruins at this time,†said Chiarelli. “I have a short list of candidates in mind, and I hope to have a new Head Coach in place in the near future.
“I want to thank Dave and Marc for their hard work and dedication this past year, and I am certain that they will have success in their future endeavors.â€
The team also relieved associate coach Marc Habscheid.
GM Peter Chiarelli hasn’t been happy that the team has failed to make the playoffs over the past two seasons.
“Having come from organizations where you’re used to winning, that’s been very difficult,” Chiarelli said after the season. “But I also know quick fixes don’t work and so I have to be patient. I have to balance the two things because I know our ownership demands a winner and I know the city demands a winner.”

Well the Boston Bruins have fired David Lewis just after one season, how stupid is that! If I am suppose to understand that if a team who has underachievers fail to make the playoffs then the head coach gets fired! I do not understand this at all. When will the Boston Bruins realize that its not the coaches fault but the product in which he has been given. No real superstars, subpar goaltending, a fair farm system, and an owner who does not understand hockey at all! Why don’t the Boston Bruins hire Don Cherry and his dog Blue as the next head coach of the Boston Bruins and restore the Black and Gold to their heyday of hockey excellence. Start trading medicore players for good ones, the ones who are cluch performers and ones who can lead and be able to bring home a Stanley Cup Championship to Boston after 36 years. Why not that.

I too am surprised that the Bruins fired Lewis after one year. Even Lewis admitted there were some things he should’ve done differently, but it’s not like he has the Wings’ roster to work with either. I would’ve given him two years personally, but that’s just me.
