Draft is a busy time for Holland
Not only does GM Ken Holland have to worry about drafting players and any potential trades this weekend, he will also be meeting with the agents for Todd Bertuzzi, Dominik Hasek, and Mathieu Schneider according to The Detroit News.
Holland was scheduled to meet with Bertuzzi’s agent, Pat Morris, Thursday before the “NHL Awards Show,” but flight delays scrapped those plans. Holland will connect with Morris this weekend.
“We have interest in Todd, but it all comes down to the dollars,” said Holland, noting the Wings’ limitations with the salary cap.”
As the article speculates, Hasek is the most likely to agree to a new contract over the weekend. With the recent signing by the Flyers of defenseman Kimmo Timonen, Schneider’s stock is rising this offseason and he could very well demand $6 million. In a previous article, Holland mentioned that he was hoping to sign him for around $5.25. If Schneider wants to stay with Detroit, he’s going to have to take a discount off of his market value to do so.
Holland wants to bring back Schneider and Bertuzzi, but due to the salary cap he will only do so if it’s at the right price.
