Hasek agrees to one year deal

I leave my computer for a few hours to go see the blockbuster hit Transformers and come back to find goaltender Dominik Hasek has agreed to a one year deal with the Wings. Phew! What a relief. I knew that the two sides would eventually agree, but now GM Ken Holland knows exactly how much he has left under the cap to get a forward and most likely depth defenseman.

Please note that the contract has not been signed yet, although it is expected to be completed by sometime on Friday.

“It appears I’ve got a deal,” Holland said. …

Holland said he expected to wrap things up Friday morning with Hasek’s agent, Ritch Winter.

“I haven’t talked to Dom, and he hasn’t signed it,” Holland said. “My expectation is we’re either done or we’re very close.”

Ansar Khan breaks it down for us:

The Wings and goaltender Dominik Hasek have finally agreed to a one-year contract, his agent, Ritch Winter confirmed Thursday night. Winter said the deal is “in the $2 million range” with a bonus structure valued at another $2 million, based on team playoff success. Unless Hasek pulls a Michael Nylander, the Wings should receive the signed document Friday and put out a press release on it.

“It’s one of the first negotiations I’ve been involved with where the player, the player’s agent and the club agreed he’s worth between $5 million and $6 million,” Winter said.

He added, jokingly, “I had to talk them down to something near $2 million. Dom knew he was coming back, it was just a case of making a deal that made sense to everybody,” Winter said. “He took $2-$3 million less than the club thought he was worth. He’s trying to keep (salary cap) room open for them to have a chance to win.”

I’m just happy Dom is back. We obviously all knew that he would be getting a raise this offseason after his performance this past season. I think a base of $2 million is definitely fair and if the Wings reach the SCF and then Hasek receives all of his $2 million incentives, I’d be happy with that as well. Remember that the $2 million in bonuses would count against next year’s cap (or whatever amount of incentives he earns).

What did you think of the Transformers movie?

Zanstorm- I enjoyed it. I thought it was a bit long in parts with some corny dialogue and whatnot, but I am glad I went to see it. The special effects were great and I love action movies so I liked it!
