Ordonez has a great weekend
The Detroit Tigers finally pulled together two straight victories and both over the Oakland Athletics. Magglio Ordonez had a great weekend with three home runs (two of which came in the same inning on Sunday). The Tigers were able to reclaim their AL Central division lead.
Summary: Magglio Ordonez led an eight-run surge by the Tigers in the second inning, belting two homers off Oakland’s Dallas Braden in the same inning to help the Tigers take first place in the AL Central.
• Two of a kind: Ordonez joined Hall of Famer Al Kaline as the only Tigers to homer twice in one inning. Kaline did it in 1955 against the Kansas City Athletics.
• Hero: On top of his multihomer performance, Ordonez, who had four RBIs, surpassed the 100-RBIs mark for the second straight season. ..
“It’s an honor to be the second one to do it in Detroit history. It’s really nice,” the soft-spoken slugger said. “When you hit two home runs in a game, it’s huge. When you do it in one inning, it’s bigger.”
