Tigers 6, Indians 2

I find myself watching more and more Detroit Tigers games lately because the race for the division title and wild card spots are so close. Today, the Tigers needed an extra inning to defeat the Cleveland Indians (6-2) and move into first place of the AL Central. Before tonight, they were tied with the Indians.

Magglio Ordonez hit a three-run homer in Detroit’s four-run 10th inning as Detroit moved one game ahead of Cleveland in the up-for-grabs division with a 6-2 win over the Indians on Monday night.

Ordonez’s 22nd homer, a shot to left off Joe Borowski (2-5), broke it open for the Tigers, who were missing two regulars because of the flu and had been playing lately as if their whole roster had come down with something.

Curtis Granderson, whose all-out diving catch in the eighth kept it tied 2-2, walked to open the 10th and went to third on Ryan Raburn’s bloop single. Gary Sheffield’s RBI single gave Detroit a 3-2 lead.

How amazing of a season is Magglio Ordonez having right now?

When Mags hit that homerun last night I just laughed - the way he just stood there watching it for a second, I knew it was gone before they even showed it to us. I love how he just looks like he’s having the time of his life every night out there.

I think the debate Mario and Rod had last night about whether or not he’s more valuable to the Tigers than A-Rod to the Yankees (in talking about who deserves the league MVP) is really interesting too. I haven’t seen enough Yankees games to make a call either way, but he’s certainly been amazing for us.

Let’s hope tonight ends up similarly! Go Tigers!

I think Magglio is definitely more valuable to the Tigers than A-Rod is to the Yankees. Hopefully, Maggs can keep his numbers up and can earn the MVP!
