Game 4 Live Blog: Wings/Predators

Tonight, I will be live blogging Game #4 of the series between the Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators. I can’t promise that my live blog will be as specific as Joe Hass did in the first three games of this series, but I’ll do what I can. The most recent updates can be found at the end of each post.

Until the puck drops at 9pm, I’ll be watching the Rangers-Devils game. See you in an hour!

Puck Drops!

20:00 - Brian Rafalski is paired up with Brad Stuart to start the game with Nick Lidstrom and Niklas Kronwall (5-55) on the second line. Brett Lebda is in instead of Andreas Lilja.

16:15 - Anyone else hate that stupid whistle, which the fans use to signal Tootoo is on the ice?

15:47 - Kronwall penalty for hooking. Not what we need - a chance to give the Preds’ fans to really get into the game.

14:42 - Dan Hamhuis was wide open in front of the net and scored a power play goal. It’s the first time Nashville has the lead in the series outside of the third period in Game #3. Crap.

14:10 - Shea Weber scores 32 seconds later. So what was all this we had talked about composure yesterday? The Wings better get their act together and fast if they want a chance to finish this series up at home. And now the crowd is so loud, we better slow things down and start creating some chances. Upon a reply, we see Weber’s shot deflected off of Kronner’s butt. Great, he has directly/indirectly contributed to both goals.

10:32 - Hamhuis was called for tripping giving Detroit the man advantage. (Chelios and Hordichuk were also given penalties, but it’s still 5-on-4). Let’s go boys!

4:29 - Detroit takes a penalty. Crap.

4:08 - Hlavac got a penalty. I’d hope the Wings could do something good, but I think that might be too much this period. Ugh.

:46.6 - Holmstrom’s penalty for cross-checking. We need to get our act together. And start looking like a composed veteran team! It’s the playoff boys, where are you?

First Period: Predators 2, Wings 0

13:36 - GOOOOAAALLLLL!!!!! On the power play! Finally. Datsyuk goal, fyi.

13:25 - CRAP. The Preds score 11 seconds after Datsyuk, which completely loses Detroit’s momentum. And here comes Chris Osgood. I am certainly worried right now. Crap. And that Sommet Center crowd is rocking.

9:13 - Brad Stuart gets a slashing penalty. We cannot let them score. We need to get at least one more goal heading into the second intermission if we still want a chance at this game.

7:54 - How was that a penalty on Draper? I mean, it’s one thing if you call a double penalty, but just Draper? Seriously, that’s ridiculous nonsense! Now we have 41 seconds of 5-on-3 crap.

5:50 - Osgood made some niice saves during that penalty kill. Good job Ozzie!

3:15 - Zidlicky heads to the box. I don’t think I can state how critical it is for Detroit to get on the board right now during this power play.

End of Second Period: Predators 3, Wings 1

Start of Third Period

Are they going to bring it? Or are we going to go back to Detroit with this series tied at two? Please bring it boys. Please.

16:37 - WINGS GOAL!! Another Datsyuk goal! For those seasons of people doubting his play in the postseason, he is really stepping up. But we’re still a goal behind and we cannot let Nashville score again. Come on boys!

14:27 - Big Kronwall hit on Dumont! Yeah Kronner! The crowd is still pretty loud, but the Wings are pressing hard.

10:18 - Ozzie has stopped all 10 shots he has faced. Hopefully that trend will continue tonight.

7:20 - Nashville uses their only time out after an icing to give their top players a rest. We have 7:20 left to tie it up - let’s go boys!

2:02 - The Wings are certainly applying a lot of pressure now. But is it a little too late? We’ll find out soon enough. I hope not.

:02.3 - Well, it’s over boys and girls. The team certainly tried to come back, but that third goal proved to be too much.

So who will the team play in Game #5? If it was up to me, I’d have to go with Chris Osgood. He’s played fantastic tonight.

I am working tomorrow from 10-5pm since the Wings will have practice at the Joe so I won’t be able to post a game round-up until after work. Until then…

Re 16:15 first period: I am aware of the Tootoo whistle, but chose not to directly comment on said whistle because everything I would’ve written about it devolves into a parade of words that were neither nice nor family-friendly and ended with the words “the horse you rode in on.”

  2. Ron Landrus Says:

Well thats three bad periods in a row. Is it February again?!?!?

  3. Dom Hasek Says:

Dom Hasek is by far one of the most inconsistent goalies i have EVER seen. They need to stick with a combo of Ozzie and Jimmy. OR get the legend, Mr. Ryan Miller!!!!!

  4. Christy Hammond Says:

Joe- It’s so freaking annoying. I can’t stand it and it could very well make you go mad.

Ron- Certainly felt like it. Now that Ozzie is in, things seem a bit better. But still…

Dom- He has been all over the place this series. One minute he’s a freakin’ genius goalie and the next, you are shocked he couldn’t make that kind of save.

  5. Baroque Says:

    Strange series.

But how competitive is the Western conference? If Anaheim wins their game 4 on Thursday, every single series will go to 2-2, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see all four series go seven games.

It looks like everything in the East could wrap up after five games at most.

[…] Joe here. A heads up that I’ll be live blogging tonight’s elimination game! I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to get the score of Game 4, but I’m sure the Wings buried them and Hasek stood on his head. In fact, let me go grab a look at Christy’s Game 4 live blog… […]
