Game 4 Live Blog: Wings/Stars
Be sure to come back in less than an hour for a Game #4 BTJ live blog. The puck drops at 8pm. Go Wings!
First Period
19:22 - Dallas called offsides.
18:19 - Solid scoring chance by Tomas Holmstrom!
15:33 - Dallas just had a couple solid chances with Osgood making a nice save.
13:44 - Delayed tripping penalty on Kronwall. A Stars’ shot by Grossman hits the goalpost. The pressure is definitely being put on by Dallas. This will be a key penalty kill by Detroit.
12:50 - Osgood gives up a rebound on a nice Brad Richards shot that Mike Modano deflected, but Rafalski is able to get it out of the crease. The heart is starting to pound a bit more.
11:44 - Dallas only got one shot on goal during their power play.
10:17 - Another Detroit penalty, but this time for interference by Nicklas Lidstrom. Crap! Lids is kind of important to our penalty kill. Yikes. We’re going to need Osgood to play great over the next two minutes.
8:35 - Zetterberg brings the puck into the Dallas zone and chews up some time on the penalty kill. Nice!
8:17 - The Stars only had one shot on their second power play.
8:07 - Osgood makes a nice save on a Eriksson wraparound shot.
6:48 - Another Detroit penalty- stick holding by Darren McCarty. Crap. Are the Wings just trying to make things interesting by going to the box more frequently? We need to have composure and play smart boys, let’s try to stay out of the box please!
5:56 - Stars called for offsides.
5:34 - Stuart tries to clear the puck, but fails to do so.
4:48 - Dallas fails to get a single shot on that power play. Now that’s how you do a penalty kill.
3:05 - Dallas called offsides.
End of First Period: Wings 0, Stars 0 [Stars outshoot Wings, 9-5]
Second Period
14:23 - Nice slapshot by Nicklas Lidstrom and then Marty Turco gave up a juicy rebound.
13:17 - Detroit finally goes on the power play. Dallas gets two minutes for Robidas’ holding.
12:40ish- Bull crap! The Wings’ beautiful power play goal was called off because they said Holmstrom was in the crease. On the replay, his feet were clearly NOT in the crease. That’s total bull crap. Horrendous call by the referee. Horrendous.
7:40 - Dallas gets a cross checking penalty. The Wings are really applying the pressure right now so it’s time for Detroit to score for the second time today to actually get the game lead. And yes, I’m still bitter that goal didn’t count. THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT!!!
4:57 - Steve Ott gets called for elbowing. Maybe the Wings can do something with this power play.
2:57 - Wings only get two shots on net during their power play. Crap.
:22.7 - Stars score. Crap. Eriksson scores, but he’s waaay in the crease. So if we’re calling back goals from being in the crease, how does that one not get called back? I am pissed off.
End of Second Period: Wings 0, Stars 1 [Wings outshoot Stars, 19-15]
Third Period
19:11 - The Wings tie it up on a beautiful wrist shot by Henrik Zetterberg. Finally! You also have to give a lot of credit to Datsyuk for picking off that pass and then carrying it up the ice and dishing it off to Hank.
16:48 - Dallas penalty - Eriksson for tripping. And Detroit is coming on strong so this could be the chance Detroit needs to gain the lead in the game.
14:43 - Brian Rafalski is called for tripping. Crap. We do not need to give the Stars a chance to get back in this game.
14:25 - Mike Modano scored right in the middle of the two face off circles - a beautiful one-timer up above Osgood’s shoulder. Crap.
5:26 - Brenden Morrow scores. Ugh.
4:15 - Holmstrom’s shot goes off the goal post.
2:17 - Dallas gets a two minute penalty due to a delay of penalty thanks to Morrow.
:35.3 - Modano gets called for hooking on Pavel Datsyuk.
Well, that sucked. I have no other comments at the moment because I’m pissed off at the moment. Good night everyone.

Does the league frown on 5 on 5 play? And what was that exchange between two refs draper and roberto? I always felt like the the refs were supposed to be invisible, now it seems they are part of the enetrtainment.
Wings need get in a groove despite the calls, though.

The NHL has a problem that needs fixed on the so called goaltender interference.

12-2 shots on goal in the first 12+ minutes? I think Babs woke the team up at the first intermission.

Seriously, on goaltender interference. I thought the rule was dont touch the goalie and no part of your feet in the crease. They painted the crease blue so that would be easier to measure. So was that call based on homers reputation or did I miss something or do I have the interpretation wrong. I need a tylenol.

Ron- Had they disallowed Homer’s goal and then disallowed Eriksson’s goal, you wouldn’t hear any uber complaints from me. But to completely use different standards for what is goaltending interference in the same game is totally frustrating…

I turned it on at the end of the second and Dallas scored.
I didn’t flip back in time and missed the beginning of the third and the Wings scored.
Shortly after tuning back in we took a penalty and Dallas scored.
Apologies to all - I’m not watching any more. Go Wings!

Though I’m a Stars fan and couldn’t help but be happy about the goalie interference call (just because it meant we wouldn’t be behind…again) it was definitely a bogus call. The announcers made a point that it could’ve been a make-up call from a goal earlier in the series, who knows. But definitely not the right one.

Homer had this problem a couple years back, and I thought it was rectified.
Wings had an off night. The stars will have to actually show some talent to win at the Joe.

It was determined that homer had one or more butt cheek(s) in the crease causing stress for mr turco.
See I told you it was an assenine call.
(My spelling aint no good)

On the butt cheek call Marty said he could not move freely?!?!. I am so confused.
Morrow is laughing and joking like they have the cup already. How sad.

Would have been pretty amazing to have swept the Stars. So I dont see this as that big of a deal. Different refs, different venue, I am guessing saturday and the adversity will do the wings some good, eh!

My fav comment I read on the game, from one of the freep.com stories:
“That was the best hockey game Tim Donahey ever officiated.”
