Best. Day. Ever.

I am on such a high right now, it’s absolutely ridiculous. I “worked” the parade today and was surrounded by my coworkers, the players, and their friends and family all day. No complaints whatsoever. Thanks to my VIP pass, all-access pass, and my staff t-shirt, I could go anwhere I wanted outside of the stage (which I went on after they were all done).

I got to…
- Be escorted by police in the staff bus to Hockeytown Cafe.
- Attend the pre-parade VIP party at Hockeytown Cafe where I mingled with coworkers, players, and their families and friends.
- Drive a red Corvette in the parade. I drove a Detroit city councilwoman named Brenda.
- Go in the VIP tent after the parade.
- Sit with the players’ family and friends in front of the stage during the presentation.
- Celebrate with coworkers and players!

I am sharing my photos from the day, which you can view in its entirety on Flickr. But here are some of my favorites below!

Me with the Conn Smythe and its 2008 winner, Henrik Zetterberg.

Me with BTJ favorite Niklas Kronwall.

Me with Aaron Downey, the most talkative player to the interns, and two other interns.

Me with Kirk Maltby, two interns, and Nicklas Lidstrom.

Another intern and I in front of the stage before the presentation.

Updated: Here are a couple more from my friend’s camera…

Christy, you are seriously the luckiest girl in the world. Also, I want that freaking Bruise Brothers shirt Downey is wearing.

  2. Steve James Says:

Wow. Kudos to your bosses in Chicago for encouraging you to come back and enjoy this.

Let us know what day next week that grin on your face wears off!

Very cool! I’m incredibly jealous. The closest thing to “celebrating” that I was able to do in Wisconsin was to wear my Hasek jersey around yesterday and have an old woman ask me if “That was the team that won yesterday?”

And Steve is right, your bosses are VERY cool for letting you come back to enjoy the championship.

BTW, Zetterberg has the best, “I’m a pimp, I know” look on his face in that photo!

Christy, congratulations. Having read your blog for quite a while, I can’t imagine anyone more deserving of celebrating with the team we love so much. My only disbelief is that you were able to maintain your cool. Having spent years in Hollywood, I’ve never been easily impressed with celebrities, but I saw your pictures and was just a little starstruck.

One question though, no pictures of you and Stevie Y?

  5. Dave S. Says:

haha. Yes. Henrik does have the epitomy of the “i’m a pimp. i know.” look.

and I’m loving the ‘that guy’ in the last photo.

Downey has that kinda Matt Damon smile. Like ‘OH Hey! You caught me while i was havin some fun. surprise. theres a picture! awesome”

Glad you had fun. I know I wish I could have been there. but Ohio is a bit of a drive for a parade. lol

I am green with envy that you were able to be so up close and personal at the parade! Thanks for sharing the details and photos! Yeah Wings!!

  7. Ronnie Says:

Awe, my post got taken down. Are you sensitive about your looks?

  8. Christy Hammond Says:

Ronnie- I have no idea what post you are talking about unfortunately. Did you try to leave a previous comment to this blog post? If so, it may have accidentally been filtered through my spam thing so go ahead and try again if you want.

Gabriel- No photos with Stevie Y unfortunately. One of the interns got one with him, but he didn’t look too pleased with that and sat down right afterwards so I didn’t want to bug him.

Everyone else- Thanks for the comments!

Ronnie, I have been pulling what hair I have left looking for your post. I knew I saw it today. It was great. Any chance of PM the link?
