Vote Lidstrom at The Ace of Sports
Three days ago, I mentioned on BTJ that I wrote a bit on why Steve Yzerman should be voted the Detroit’s Best Athlete of the Decade. Well, I wasn’t going to admit it until Yzerman “lost” but I truly believe Nicklas Lidstrom has been the best athlete in Detroit since 1998. Unfortunately, Dave @ Gorilla Crouch was quicker than me in responding to Ace’s email so I ended up writing about Yzerman.
Anyways, Round #2 of the poll has begun and Nicklas Lidstrom has been faced up against Magglio Ordonez, outfielder for the Detroit Tigers. Now Maggs is most certainly my Tiger and I love the guy, but there is absolutely no way he is a better athlete than Lidstrom over the past decade.
Lidstrom has three Stanley Cup titles to his name (not including the ‘97 win), six Norris Trophies, and a multitude of other impressive stats. So go head over to The Ace of Sports and vote Lidstrom!

What a complete sham that Lidstrom won over Yzerman. Lidstrom was nothing to the wings until about 2000 and even then he still wasn’t all that great. Yzerman was by far and away the best Wings player up until after 2002. Even in Yzerman’s last playoff he was still better than the overrated Lidstrom. Lidstrom is by far the most overrated hockey player of all-time. You Lidstrom lovers should take your Lidstrom colored glasses off and you’d see the truth. Yzerman might have not won the trophies that Lidstrom won, but that’s doesn’t mean anything. All those Norris trophies are worthless and mean nothing. Yzerman was far more valuable to the wings than Lidstrom ever was or ever will be. It’s a shame you so called wings underrate and underappreciate Yzerman. I wish he was traded back in 96 to Ottawa. He deserves better than ungrateful and unappreciative Wings fans. I can’t wait until he leaves the wings organization. I hope he takes his banner with him and tells the wings to give out his number. You guys don’t deserve to have it hanging in the rafters at the JLA.

Wow, you’re quite the whiny bitch huh, “captain”? For such a whiny attitude, you don’t deserve to use the number 19 and be in any way associated with Stevie Y.

Garth, is this name better? Sorry, but it’s disgusting the way Detroiters have already forgotten everything Yzerman did for the city and the team and all the sacrifices. He could’ve easily won more awards and put up better numbers, but instead he changed his game to help win the team win more cups and for what? So some POS like Lidstrom can be considered a better player. Yzerman was the better player and it’s really not even close. Unfortunately, Detroiters have a short memory and Yzerman will soon become the Larry Aurie of the modern Wings. It’s a shame that Yzerman wasted his time playing his entire career in Detroit. He could’ve been a much better player had he played elsewhere.

Garth, is this a better name? Sorry, but I’m sick of the disrespect that Yzerman gets from the fans and the team. He was by far and away the best Detroit athlete in the past 10 years. How quickly everyone forgets everything he did and sacrificed for this team. One look at Lidstrom’s worthless Norris trophies and Yzerman becomes a nothing. What a complete joke. Lidstrom has won so many because he’s had no competition. This is an extremely weak era of defenseman. It’s a shame that everyone has so quickly has forgotten everything that Yzerman did and gave up for this team. Yzerman sacrificed his entire career so this team could win a cup and it certainly wasn’t worth it because now a terrible player like Lidstrom is considered a much better player. Yzerman should’ve went to Ottawa. He would’ve had a much better career.
